Activities Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2009

Team Delta LIoyd

Fresh from its appearance in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009, Team Delta Lloyd will join the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show. Visitors can experience for themselves the sensation of sailing an ocean racer. This is a unique chance for fans to find out how it feels to be onboard such a fast competitive yacht.

Sailing with Hans Bouscholte

Experience the thrill of sailing on a fast racing yacht on the V60 led by professional sailor Hans Bouscholte.

Sailing on an RIB

The buzz of sailing at 90 km/h at sea is something very few people have experienced. Now speed freaks can realise their dream at the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show as they board a large RIB for a trip on the North Sea. Fasten your safety belts, look into the distance, feel the wind in your hair and enjoy!

Sea trials in open sailyachts

At the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show the Dutch watersports federation, Dragon Marine and Sailcenter will organise races and sea trials in open sailyachts. Children can either take part or watch the show from the public stands at the pier with spectacular views over the water. It is also possible to sail in various keel boat classes. Visitors interested in specific classes can head to the water with the Dutch watersports federation while the wooden national classes present their beautiful yachts on the quay.

Manoeuvring clinics

The basics of how to manoeuvre on the water will be taught for free at the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show by instructors from De Zeezeilers van Marken (The Sea Sailors of Marken). In short clinics onboard sail yachts, participants will learn to individually perform certain actions with the motor. Weather permitting, the yachts will leave port six times a day carrying four ‘students’.

Delta Lloyd Match Racing Championships

There will be demonstrations in various classes of the increasingly popular match racing where two boats sail against each other on a short course. On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show will host the Delta Lloyd Match Racing Championships for club teams in Laser SB3 boats. The various teams will have the opportunity to train from Wednesday to Friday in order to be at their best come the weekend finals. Which team takes home the trophy will become clear on Sunday afternoon.

Parasailor Try-outs

Bomarine and the Sailing Centre Lelystad will offer sailors the chance to test the effect of the Parasailor on short sailing trips. A combination of a spinnaker and a kite, the Parasailor’s special features allow it to be used as a traditional spinnaker or gennaker. An opening between the top and bottom of the sail holds a three-dimensional, pressure filled and aerodynamic wing. Like a parachute or surf kite, the Parasailor provides propulsion, raises the bow and helps yachts to sail faster.

Delta Lloyd Optimist Arena

Children will have the opportunity to take sailing lessons in Optimist sailboats on a course between the exhibited vessels in the marina. There will also be demonstrations by experienced sailors in this class. These activities are organised by Dragon Marine in cooperation with Delta Lloyd and the Optimist Club Holland.
