On 4 April 2012, the Eye-building was opened on the northern bank of the IJ harbour in Amsterdam. The Viennese firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects drew up a spectacular design for the building, which has been enthusiastically received by the press and public alike. EYE is the first major cultural institution to make the leap across the IJ. It strives to be the ‘house of film’, a modern museum full of many things to see and do, all of which are related to film. In addition to the exhibitions and film screenings, the building itself is freely accessible every day of the week. It also houses a restaurant with large terrace.
